Reaction Injection Molding
ABOUT Reaction Injection Molding
Technology: Reaction Injection Molding Services are plastics molding services which use injection molding techniques with thermosetting polymers, which produce a curing reaction within the mold. This differs from ordinary injection molding where the material hardens through cooling. The RIM molding process is used to make heavy duty molded body and interior panels for tractors, trucks, etc. Variations of the process include Reinforced RIM and Structural RIM, which add various reinforcing materials in the molding process to add strength to the thermosetting resin.

Advantages: Reaction injection molding services offer economical production of large molded parts compared with thermoplastic injection molding
  • Large molds can be made from softer materials than thermoplastic injection molds owing to the lower pressure of the process
  • Curing rates can be adjusted to allow for large volumes to be filled

Limitations of Reaction Injection Molding Services
  • Heat must be removed from the mold during curing
  • Requires more costly thermosetting resins

Applications: Reaction injection molding services are useful for molding large parts requiring good structural strength.
  • Body panels, bumpers, etc.
  • Consoles, equipment cabinets
  • Medical rehabilitation equipment
