Mechanical Joining
ABOUT Mechanical Joining
Technology: Mechanical Joining Services are any number of services that include bolting, riveting, staking, etc. Bolting services, for example, are often employed by pipeline operators for bolt installation and/or repair. Other services include the installation of captive or self-clenching fasteners. Mechanical joining services are often offered as adjuncts to other manufacturing services such as machining and sheet metal working.

Advantages: Mechanical joining services are useful for large scale production where the quantity of fastenings benefits from time saving fastening methods
  • Services often have access to automated equipment to reduce manual efforts
  • Less dependent on surface preparation than other joining methods such as adhesive bonding
  • Fastenings are usually removable
  • In house expertise can often recommend ways of reducing fastener counts and costs

    Limitations of Mechanical Joining Services
  • Mechanical fastenings usually require secondary sealing devices in weatherproofing applications
  • Exposed fasteners can detract from a product's appearance

Applications: Mechanical joining services are the choice for assemblies, etc. that need to be undone for repair and so forth.
  • Pipeline flanges
  • Electrical enclosures
