ABOUT Hydroforming
Hydroforming is the use of special machines to shape sheet material or tubes into simple or complex shapes. It is a unique method of die forming that presses room temperature malleable material into a die using high pressure hydraulic fluid. Alternately, the die may be pushed into the pressurized fluid chamber to form the material. In sheet hydroforming the pressurized fluid may be contained in a bladder or may contact the material directly. In tubular hydroforming either the tube in enclosed by the die and then the tube is pressurized, or the tube is pressurized and then the external die is closed. A variety of materials may be formed using this method including aluminum, brass, bronze, copper, stainless steel and a variety of alloys. Products needing a deep drawn shape or having a complex shape can be created.
Advantages:
Able to do complex shapes
Part is formed in a single operation
Improved overall quality of finished parts
High quality exterior surface finish
Reduced cost and time to make parts
Minimal material "Thin-Out" throughout the formed parts
Lower tool costs since only one die is required
Limitations of Hydroforming Services:
Feature sizes have a minimum limits, no sharp corners
Requires some form of FEA or similar analysis to predict results
Applications: Hydroforming services are used to produce a variety of everyday objects.
