ABOUT Plasma Cutting
Technology: Plasma Cutting Services are metal cutting services in which a pressurized inert gas is blown at a high speed through a restricted orifice nozzle containing an electrode which generates an electrical arc ionizing the gas, forming a high temperature plasma arc. In some units compressed air can be used in place of an inert gas. The plasma arc is hot enough to effectively melt the workpiece creating the cut. The high velocity pressurized gas blows away any molten material. This process is used for ferrous and non-ferrous metals and is ideal for cutting steel and other conductive metals. Manual, CNC, and multi axis cutting is possible.
Advantages: Plasma Cutting is much faster than mechanical cutting and has the ability to easily make non-linear cuts. It can be used on materials which cannot be cut with oxyacetylene torches like aluminum and stainless steel and highly reflective metals like copper and brass which may be difficult to cut with laser cutting machines. Other advantages include:
Small heat affected zone
Safe - no flammable gases
No pre-heating required
Narrow kerf
Limitations of Plasma Cutting Services
Can leave a slight bevel on cut edges which is noticeable on thicker pieces
Requires electricity, reducing portability of the tools
Not practical for thick steel
Applications: Plasma cutting services can cut a variety of conductive metals including aluminum, stainless steel, copper and copper alloys, nickel and nickel alloys, magnesium, cast iron, carbon steel, etc.
