Flame Cutting
ABOUT Flame Cutting
Technology: Flame Cutting Services are metal cutting services such as Oxy-Fuel Flame Cutting, which uses a torch that mixes oxygen with a gas (such as Acetylene, Hydrogen, propane, MAPP gas, etc.) to produce a flame that preheats the surface or edge of the material being cut to its ignition temperature. A stream of high pressure oxygen is then directed through the central jet of the torch nozzle into the workpiece. The stream of oxygen causes the metal to burn and blows the resulting molten oxide through to the other side producing the cut.

Advantages: Flame cutting services provide an effective method for cutting relatively thick steel plate
  • Economical
  • Cut Face Square with Respect to Top Surface
  • Minimum Radius Top Corners
  • No Undercut of Cut Face

  • Limitations of Flame Cutting Services
  • Flame cutting can only be used on metals whose oxides have a lower melting point than the base metal being cut. Only low carbon steel and some alloy steels meet this condition and can be effectively cut with this process.
  • Heat Affected Zones (HAZ) Along Cut Edge

  • Applications: Flame cutting services are used where cutting precision is not a high concern
  • Thick plate beyond the capacity of other tool-less cutting methods
  • Complex profiles
