ABOUT Die Cutting
Technology: Die Cutting Services are press services wherein flat sheet or coiled stock materials are cut using steel dies that conform to the final shape or profile of the parts being fabricated. Die cutting methods include flat bed steel rule dies, rotary steel rule dies, metal blanking dies, ultrasonic die cutting, and laser die cutting. Die cutting is usually restricted to thin materials such as rubber, felts, plastics, paper, etc. Semi-rigid packages as used to merchandise hardware, foods, etc. are often die cut to produce rounded (not sharp) corners, for example. Kiss cutting produces peel-off labels and the like by cutting only through the label material itself and not the paper backing.Die cutting produces very accurate, repeatable cuts.Laser die cutting can produce more complex shapes than steel rule or blanking dies can, albeit at slower production rates.
Advantages: Die cutting services are used in a variety of packaging, converting, and printing applications.
Limitations of Die Cutting ServicesSteel die sets are costly to manufacture and best for high volume productionLaser die cutting can produce small batch and even single items but it is not as suited to high volume runs
Applications: Die cutting services are used to produce any number of items from thin materials, includingGasketsLabels, stickers, etc.Semi-rigid plastic packagesCorrugated cartonsElectronic films and partsShielding, insulators, etc.
