Bonding Services
ABOUT Bonding Services
Technology: Bonding Services are any of a number of materials joining services that typically use adhesives, etc. to join various metals, plastics, ceramics and so on to themselves or to other materials. Bonding of friction materials to metal shoes, clutch plates, etc. is a common application of bonding. Bonding services offer an alternative to other joining services such as riveting and other traditional fastening methods. Adhesives offer very good bond strength that is on par with other traditional joining methods.

Advantages: Bonding services can be successfully employed to join materials where other joining methods are insufficient
  • Stress can be distributed across the length of the bond
  • Useful for thin materials where heat/melt based techniques can cause perforations, etc.
  • Useful for joining dissimilar materials
  • Complex shapes can be bonded first and then cut to avoid difficulties in matching pre-cut shapes together

    Limitations of Bonding Services
  • Adhesive bonds usually require curing time
  • Adhesive bonds can fail at elevated temperatures
  • Unlike mechanical joinings, bonded assemblies can be difficult to undo

Applications: Bonding services are suited to joining thin materials as well as materials of different compositions
  • Friction linings of clutches and brakes
  • PCB heat sinks
