Tube Fabrication
ABOUT Tube Fabrication
Technology: Tube Fabrication Services are manufacturing services which shape tubing to form elbows, curves, etc. and generally have the capability to add supports, flanges, etc. There are various methods available to bend tubing, among them
  • Compression Bending: tubes are pressed into shape using simple machines that force the tubes around shoes without any interior support.
  • Draw Bending: The tube is drawn over the former die with a pressure die, usually hydraulically actuated. Mandrels can be inserted to support the insides of the thin wall tubes to avoid collapsing them. This produces round, smooth, and wrinkle free bends with centerline radius between 1 and 5 times the outside diameter. It is a very accurate form of bending used for producing hydraulic tubes, exhaust tubes, etc.
  • Roll Bending: Rolls are used to gradually shape the tubing into large radius bends. The process is used mainly for architectural tubing where sweeping radii are the norm. The process does not match the accuracy obtainable through roll bending but can produce larger radii than roll bending due to limitations on the size of tools used in roll bending.

Tube fabrication and bending offer alternatives to flexible hose and rigid fitted or welded pipe. While most industrial applications involve round tubing, architectural applications sometime call for bent square or rectangular tubing, which many vendors can produce.

Advantages: Bent tubing can outperform hoses in several areas:
  • For hydraulics, bent tubing eliminates multiple fittings and often has longer services life and higher aesthetics
  • Reduce pipeline losses due to weld fittings
  • Less labor compared to welded assembly particularly for large lot production
  • Services will often have tooling already made from prior jobs
  • Often offer certified welding, ie nuclear, ASME

    Limitations of Tube Fabrication Service
  • Stock tube bends may be available quicker for rush jobs
  • Compression fittings are readily available, easy to install, and commercially available

Applications: Tube fabrication services provide tube bending and fabrications for a variety of industries and applications.
  • Playground equipment
  • Roll over protection
  • Framework
  • Bumpers
  • Heat exchangers
