Rubber Extrusion
ABOUT Rubber Extrusion
Technology: Rubber Extrusion Services are rubber molding services used to produce rubber profiles in lengths by combination of heat and pressure which forces softened rubber through an extruding die. Rubber extrusion uses a feed screw similar to injection molding to heat and pressurize the rubber, plasticizing it to the point that it can be forced through the extruder die.

Rubber extrusion ordinarily begins with unvulcanized material with vulcanization occurring after the material has been extruded to its final shape. Some shrinkage ordinarily occurs during vulcanization.

Advantages: Rubber extrusion services can make a variety of solid and hollow profiles in various rubber materials
  • Services can often offer a choice of cold and warm extruding as well as a variety of curing processes and post-extrusion finishing
  • Services often have compounding expertise on staff that can assist with special formulations
  • Co- and tri-extrusion processes can produce multiple materials in single extrusions as well as multi-color extrusions

    Limitations of Rubber Extrusion Services
  • As with plastic extruding, ruber extrusions tend to expand after leaving the extruder die, making dimension control difficult

Applications: Rubber extrusion services can produce lengths of rubber profiled parts such as
  • Door and window seals
  • Edgings
  • Tubing
