Resin Casting
ABOUT Resin Casting
Technology: Liquid Resin Casting Services are rubber molding operations that produce rubber forms with resins that cure at or near room temperature. It is popular among hobbyists and artists but has industrial applications as well. It differs from other casting process in that no heat is used to melt the cast material, it is dispensed in liquid form and hardens through air curing or chemical reaction. Heat can accelerate curing times.

Liquid resin casting is used to manufacture small quantities of non-metal parts that on a larger scale could be manufactured through injection molding. It has the capability to accept threaded inserts for attaching fasteners. For industrial parts, molds are often machined from aluminum. Casting materials include silicones, urethanes, etc.

Advantages: Liquid resin casting offers an economical method of making flexible parts in limited quantities.
  • Suited to prototyping of parts for testing and design verification
  • Patterns can be made through impressions of the original
  • Faithful reproduction of surface finishes

  • Liquid Resin Casting Limitations
  • Not suitable for metal parts
  • Cure times can be long
  • Vacuum degassing can be required
  • Limited number of molding cycles

  • Applications: Liquid resin casting services excels at short run parts in flexible materials.
  • Architectural restorations
  • Orthotics/prosthetics
  • Medical training products
  • Modelmaking
